Rebecca Chappelear is an artist, writer, and educator with the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her practice includes the study and capture of physical objects via scanography, the experimental manipulation and collage of digital imagery, as well as a range of more traditional photographic methods. Works are often accompanied by poetry or prose.
Thematically, Rebecca’s work is connected by photography’s core property: time. Whether to allow for closer investigation and refinement, to allow herself a more concentrated window from which to see, or to insist ownership over a narrative, their work fixes these subjects and prolongs their decay into memory.
Rebecca received their BFA in Photography & Digital Imagery from Shepherd University’s Department of Contemporary Art and their MFA in Photography & Integrated Media from Lesley University’s College of Art and Design. Their work has been exhibited in their home state of Virginia as well as in Washington, DC, West Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, the Carolinas, and online.
